Since 1976, Richard Wagner’s home, Wahnfried, built between 1872 and 1874 in the palace grounds in Bayreuth and where he was buried in the garden after his death in 1883, has housed the Richard Wagner Museum. The National Archives of the Richard Wagner Foundation are housed in the adjacent Siegfried Wagner House, an annex that Wagner’s son Siegfried had converted into his own home in 1894. On a nearby piece of land purchased in the 1930s by Winifred Wagner, a modern new museum building was erected between 2010 and 2015 during the renovation of the museum.
