Since 1976, Richard Wagner’s home, Wahnfried House, has been home to the Richard Wagner Museum. Built between 1872 and 1874 in the palace grounds in Bayreuth, Wahnfried House is also the last resting place of Richard Wagner, who was buried in the gardens after his death in 1883.
Close by is Siegfried Wagner-House, now home to the National Archives of the Richard Wagner Foundation, which Wagner’s son, Siegfried, converted to his family home in 1894.
On an adjacent plot of land, purchased in the 1930s by Siegfried’s wife, Winifred, a modern new building was erected during the period of reconstruction of the Museum from 2010 to 2015.
